Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) encountered hecklers while he attended a vigil for victims of a racially motivated shooting.

A video on Sunday showed the governor speaking in Jacksonville, Florida, at a vigil as he said, ā€œWe are not going to allow these institutions to be targeted by peopleā€¦ā€

However, he was cut off by hecklers.

That prompted Jacksonville City Councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman (D) to grab the microphone and shut down the people booing.

ā€œOK, listen y’all… Let me tell you, we need to put parties aside, cause it ain’t about parties today,ā€ she said.

Pittman added, ā€œA bullet don’t know a party. So don’t get me started.ā€

On Saturday, a white gunman with an AR-15-style rifle, which reportedly had a swastika on it, opened fire in a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, killing three Black people.

CNN noted Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said the gunman ā€œleft behind racist writings and used racial slurs.ā€

The gunman is believed to have shot and killed himself after law enforcement officers entered the store.

In a video statement after the shooting, DeSantis said, ā€œThis was racially motivated. He was targeting people based on their race. That is totally unacceptable.ā€

ā€œThis guy killed himself rather than face the music and accept responsibility for his actions. And so he took the coward’s way out,ā€ he added.
