President Donald Trump will be giving remarks Thursday regarding the United States’ future in the global alliance known as the Paris Climate Accords. The event is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. ET.
While it has been reported that Trump intends to withdraw the U.S. from the agreement, the president has tweeted since the news broke that his decision is not yet final.
The purpose of the climate agreement is for nations to come together to help combat the worst affects of climate change.
There has been significant controversy regarding Trump’s decision even amongst White House staff, reportedly pitting White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon against the president’s daughter and senior advisor Ivanka Trump.
If the U.S. withdrew from the climate pact it would be joining the only other two nations who have resisted signing onto the accords: Syria and Nicaragua.
