House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) ripped into President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech during her weekly press conference on Thursday and said at one point that it is “absolutely imperative” that Trump loses the 2020 election.

Pelosi was asked if she intends to invite Trump back for the State of the Union in the future, and responded, “Next year, we will have a new President of the United States. That is an absolute imperative for our country, for our Constitution, for the land that we love from sea to shining sea.”

She added that it’s also important “for our values, which he just is disloyal to the Constitution, degrades the environment, denigrates who we are as a people and undervalues who we are as a great country that is a good country where people care about each other and where there is a sense of community. It’s appalling, the things that he says.”

Pelosi later said, “I have tried to be gracious with him, I’m always dignified.”

Here’s a video of Pelosi’s press conference, her remarks about the 2020 election come at the 45-minute mark:

Pelosi caused a stir on Tuesday night during the State of the Union when she tore up Trump’s State of the Union address after he delivered it.

Though Republicans were upset about Pelosi tearing up Trump’s speech and even Vice President Mike Pence complained about it on Fox News, the speaker has defended her decision, saying that she tore up a “manifesto of mistruths.”

We won’t know for a few months who Trump will run against in the November general election, but Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) appears to be the front-runner after a strong showing in Iowa that appears to have also been very bad for former Vice President Joe Biden, who Trump has routinely attacked.
