House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is criticizing Facebook for misleading census advertisements appearing on Facebook pages.

On Thursday, Pelosi held her weekly press conference focusing on two topics: the census and the coronavirus.

During her press conference, Pelosi wasted no time addressing one of her main concerns—the misleading census ads on Facebook.

Thousands of ads are currently running on President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence’s pages. The ads reportedly encourage users to fill out a form for the “Official 2020 Congressional District Census.”

According to The New York Times, the ad reads, “President Trump needs you to take the Official 2020 Congressional District Census today.”

However, when users click on the form, the link redirects to Trump’s campaign website. Among the questions on the form, users are asked to take a survey which includes questions about the presidential campaign, the user’s political party affiliation, and whether or not they intend to support the Trump campaign. Users are also asked to make a donation.

Pelosi is slamming the social network for allowing the misleading ads. She went on to voice her disapproval.

“The Republicans have put out – the Administration has put out something that says, ‘This is an official document, do not tear up, fill it out’,” Pelosi said. “It’s not the Census form.”

She continued, “I am particularly annoyed today at the actions of Facebook.  Facebook has something that is an official document of Donald Trump as saying, ‘Fill this out, this is a Census form’ – it is not.”

Pelosi went on to scrutinize Facebook’s policy. “It is an absolute lie, a lie that is consistent with the misrepresentation policy of Facebook.  But now they are messing with who we are as Americans. “

“This is, on the part of Facebook, a robust, unacceptable interference in the Census, and the company won’t take it down,” she added. “We’ve accepted that and it clearly violates the Census, but didn’t necessarily violate their own truthful policies.”
