As members of Congress begin debate on another coronavirus relief bill, some are fighting to expand the rules for who can receive relief benefits.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) took issue with a headline Post about members of “The Squad,” — Omar, Rep, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) — pushing to expand coronavirus relief to people who are in the country illegally.
The original headline read, “‘Squad’ members want to make illegal immigrants eligible for coronavirus aid.”
However, Omar took issue with the use of “illegal immigrants” and posted a screenshot of the article with the term crossed out and replaced with “American taxpayers.”

Some members of Congress have taken issue with the fact that the two trillion dollar relief bill that sends direct payments to Americans leaves out those who are not legally in the country.
Ocasio-Cortez voiced opposition to the fact that people have to have a social security number to receive relief checks.
“To clarify, $1200 checks are ONLY going to some w/social sec numbers, NOT immigrants w/ tax IDs (ITINs),” she tweeted.
She added, “Thanks to GOP, these checks will be cut off the backs of *taxpaying immigrants,* who get nothing. Many are essential workers who pay more taxes than Amazon.”
