Dr. Anthony Fauci is offering a different perspective on the idea of a second wave of the coronavirus hitting the United States later this year.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAIS) director appeared on MSNBC on Wednesday where he was, again, asked about the possibility of a second wave of the coronavirus.

Fauci previously noted the possibilities of a resurgence and the preventative measures that could be taken to decrease the spread during the winter months, as previously reported on IJR.

However, this time, he offered a different perception suggesting the next season may not be a second wave because it many never go away.

“So, it’s not gonna disappear from the planet which means as we get into next season, in my mind, it’s inevitable that we will have a return of the virus — or maybe that it never even went away,” Fauci said. “When it does, how we handle it will determine our fate.”

See Fauci’s remarks below:

Over the last several weeks, there have been many discussions about the possibility of a resurgence later this year. CDC Director Robert Redfield, Dr. Fauci, and Dr. Deborah Birx have all been questioned about what to expect in the coming months.

The global health experts have stressed the importance of maintaining the social distancing guidelines to diminish the spread as medical institutions work to develop a vaccine for the coronavirus.

On Wednesday, Gilead Sciences Inc. reported new developments with an experimental anti-viral drug, Remdesivir.

The company revealed a study on the drug being conducted by the (NIAIS) has “its main goal in helping patients with COVID-19,” as previously reported on IJR.

Fauci also shared positive remarks about the drug, saying the trial results have offered “quite good news.” However, clinical trials are still being conducted.
