Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is weighing in on the sexual assault allegation against presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

“Look, before the Me Too movement, women were not listened to who were telling what had happened to them. Since Me Too, women are listened to. Now, I have heard Joe Biden’s explanation. I think it’s sufficient,” Schumer said when asked if he believes Biden’s accuser — Tara Reade.

“I think he will be a great candidate, I think he will be a great president, and I think he’ll help us take back the Senate,” he added.

In March, Reade accused Biden of sexually assaulting her while she was a member of his Senate staff in 1993, as IJR reported.

As more attention was given to Reade’s allegation and as reports appeared to provide some corroboration, Biden released a statement to address the charge. He said, “I want to address allegations by a former staffer that I engaged in misconduct 27 years ago. They aren’t true. This never happened.”

After his denial, several Democrats said they believed the former vice president that the assault did not occur.

“I have said I am proud to support Joe Biden for president. I believe him when he says it didn’t happen,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on May 6.

Pelosi also called the allegation a “closed issue.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Biden again denied the allegation during an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

He said, “At the end of the day, the truth is the truth. That’s what should prevail, and the truth is this never happened. This never happened. I assure you. That’s the truth.”
