Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is firing back at White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany after she took a swipe at the progressive star.

During a press conference on Monday, McEnany said the White House rejects the idea of defunding police departments. During her comments, McEnany called Ocasio-Cortez a “Biden adviser.”

“@PressSec wouldn’t be the first person to mistake a women of color for having a lower position or title than she does,” Ocasio-Cortez shot back on Twitter. “But Kayleigh – in case you haven’t picked up a newspaper in two years, I’m a Congresswoman.”

“The @PressSec comment is steeped in a long, hurtful, & horrendous history of stripping women of color of titles and diminishing them to “the help,” she continued.

Finally, she said, “Perhaps she isn’t aware that what she did is mired in racist history. If that is the case, I look forward to her apology tomorrow.”

As some Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, have amplified calls to cut funding to police departments and use the funds for other purposes, conservatives have forcefully rejected that idea.

“The fact that you have sitting congresswomen wanting to defund the police … it is extraordinary,” McEnany said before she singled out Ocasio Cortez and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.)

She said, “Notably Rashida Tlaib, notably Biden advisor AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez” as she listed some Democrats who have supported the push to defund police departments.

McEnany responded to Ocasio-Cortez with a transcript of the press conference. She said, “Read the transcript, Congresswoman.”

Trump has repeatedly tried to cast Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden as a far-left candidate. But on Monday, Biden’s campaign rejected the push to defund police departments, as IJR reported.
