Throughout his tenure, President Donald Trump has regularly lashed out at current and former high ranking officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and suggested that they unfairly targeted his 2016 presidential campaign.

Now, one of those officials is publishing a book to share his concerns that the president has been compromised by Russia.

Former FBI Agent Peter Strzok’s book, who was fired after anti-Trump text messages he sent came to light, titled “Compromised: Counterintelligence and the Threat of Donald J. Trump,” is set to be published on September 8.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Strzok said, “Russia has long regarded the United States as its ‘Main Enemy,’ and I spent decades trying to protect our country from their efforts to weaken and undermine us.”

He continued:

“I use that background to explain how the elevation by President Trump and his collaborators of Trump’s own personal interests over the interests of the country allowed Putin to succeed beyond Stalin’s wildest dreams, and how the national security implications of Putin’s triumph will persist through our next election and beyond.”

Strzok was a part of the investigation into the Trump campaign and whether former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton mishandled classified information by using a private email server during her tenure.

He also was a member of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s team. However, he was removed after his anti-Trump texts were discovered.

Despite his personal political views, Strzok maintained that his opinions did not factor into his official duties. However, he was fired from the FBI in 2018.

Strzok has fought back and claimed that he was fired in an act of political retribution.

At the conclusion of his investigation, Mueller said his team did not determine that members of the Trump campaign colluded with Russian operatives to swing the election.

However, investigation detailed extensive communications between members of the campaign and Russian operatives.

According to the book’s publisher, by the time Strzok was fired, he had “seen more than enough to convince him that the commander in chief had fallen under the sway of America’s adversary in the Kremlin.”

Strzok is not the only investigator to publish a book related to an investigation into Trump and his associates, as IJR reported.

One of Mueller’s lead investigators, Andrew Weissmann, is slated to publish his own insider account of the Mueller investigation which is said to detail the investigators’ “painstaking deliberations and costly mistakes, and Trump’s unprecedented efforts to stifle their report.”

Weissmann’s book is scheduled to be published on September 29.
