Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) received a cold reception at President Donald Trump’s rally in Dayton, Ohio, on Monday.

“We’re joined today by a real good friend of mine, somebody who’s been with me from the beginning, and I’ve been with him from the beginning,” Trump said at his campaign event.

After the attendees began to boo, Trump added, “He’s opening up … he’s a good man.”

CNN’s Jeremy Diamond reported that before Trump spoke, the state’s Lt. Gov. Jon Husted encouraged the crowd to wear face coverings to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and was met with boos.

“I’m trying to make masks in America great again, and I’ve got President Trump’s masks,” Husted said.

However, as the crowd booed, he continued, “I know we all don’t like wearin’ em … Hang on now, hang on. I get it.”

Even as he showed off several Trump 2020 branded masks, Husted was repeatedly booed by the mostly maskless crowd that is tightly packed into an airplane hangar in Vandalia, OH

"I know we all don't like wearin' em," he said as he face more boos. "Hang on now, hang on. I get it."

In July, DeWine issued a state-wide mask-wearing mandate to help curb the spread of the virus.

While he implemented strict mitigation efforts, DeWine has received good marks for his handling of the outbreak. In late-July, he had a 75% approval rating, according to The Washington Post, which was up from 44% last year.
