President Donald Trump insists that America must ease restrictions aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus “or you’re not going to have a nation.”

During the presidential debate on Thursday, Trump insisted that Americans are “learning to live” with COVID-19 because “we can’t lock ourselves up in a basement.”

“People can’t do that,” he added.

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden shot back, “He says that we’re learning to live with it. People are learning to die with it. You folks home who have an empty chair at the kitchen table this morning, that man or wife going to bed tonight and reaching over to try to touch out of habit where their wife or husband was is gone.”

“Learning to live with it? Come on. We’re dying with it,” he added.

Despite the rise in cases around the country, Trump again insisted that the country is “rounding the corner” in terms of the outbreak and that the virus is “going away.”

However, health experts have warned that as the weather gets colder, the number of coronavirus cases is likely to surge as more people gather in in-door settings where the virus transmits easier.

There are currently more than 8.6 million cases of the virus in the U.S. and more than 228,000 deaths from the virus.
