Congressional Democrats are calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump after hundreds of protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol bringing a screeching halt to proceedings meant to certify the results of the Electoral College vote.
But they are not the only ones.
Gov. Phil Scott (R-Vt.) released a statement calling for Trump to resign or be removed. He said, “This is a very disturbing time for our nation. What we are seeing today at the U.S. Capitol is not a peaceful protest — it is an unacceptable attack on our democracy.”
“Make no mistake, the President of the United States is responsible for this event. President Trump has orchestrated a campaign to cause an insurrection that overturns the results of a free, fair and legal election,” he continued.
Scott noted that there has not been evidence to support Trump’s baseless claims of widespread voter fraud.
Finally, he said, “The fabric of our democracy and the principles of our republic are under attack by the president. Enough is enough. President Trump should resign or be removed from office by his Cabinet, or by the Congress.”

Earlier this afternoon, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) announced she is drawing up articles of impeachment. In a tweet, she wrote, “I am drawing up Articles of Impeachment. Donald J. Trump should be impeached by the House of Representatives & removed from office by the United States Senate.”
“We can’t allow him to remain in office, it’s a matter of preserving our Republic and we need to fulfill our oath,” she added.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) also called for Trump’s impeachment, as she said, “This is on Donald Trump, period. He called folks to D.C. and gave them marching orders. He needs to be impeached and removed immediately.”
