Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee Chairwoman (RNC), is expressing regret that she let members of former President Donald Trump’s legal team use the RNC headquarters to spread unfounded claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

On November 19, Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell held a press conference at the RNC headquarters in Washington, D.C., where they made several unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud and a centralized effort to swing the election.

Speaking to The New York Times, McDaniel addressed that press conference as she said, “When I saw some of the things Sidney was saying, without proof, I certainly was concerned it was happening in my building.”

She added, “There are a whole host of issues we had to deal with — what is the liability of the R.N.C., if these allegations are made and unfounded?”

During the November press conference, Giuliani said, “I know crimes, I can smell them. You don’t have to smell this one, I can prove it to you, 18 different ways. I can prove to you that [Trump] won, Pennsylvania, by 300,000 votes. I can prove to you that he won Michigan, probably 50,000 votes.”

He also said at the time that the campaign would file lawsuits in Arizona, Georgia, and possibly New Mexico.

Additionally, Powell claimed — without presenting evidence — that there was a global conspiracy to change votes, “It affects votes around the country around the world, and all kinds of massive interests of globalist — dictators, corporations, you name it, everybody’s against us, except President Trump, and we the people of the United States of America should be astonished.”

However, dozens of Trump campaign lawsuits seeking to challenge the election were dismissed by courts.

Additionally, Giuliani now faces a defamation lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems, which claims he engaged in a “viral disinformation campaign about Dominion” as he lobbed “demonstrably false” against the company.

Dominion’s lawsuit is seeking damages of more than $1.3 billion.
