House Democrats are preparing to vote to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) from her committee assignments to punish her for controversial comments she made before taking office.
However, the freshman congresswoman thinks that the move will actually help her politically.
“How stupid they are,” she told The Washington Examiner in an interview. “They don’t even realize they’re helping me. I’m pretty amazed at how dumb they are.”
Greene went on to say that she believes Democrats will strip her of committee assignments during a vote on Thursday. But, she says that removing her from committees will make it easier to campaign for candidates ahead of the 2022 mid-term elections.
“Oh no, it doesn’t hurt me at all I think it’s going to give me more time on my hands, I think, which is fantastic because then I can gain more support, I can help really get Republicans running in these primaries and elections in 2022,” she said.
She added, “I can help President Trump, whenever he comes out with his plan, which I’m excited to do.”
Greene also told the Examiner that former President Donald Trump is “supportive” of her and is “sick and tired of weak Republicans that won’t fight.”
“I’m going to push the party to the right of which is where they need to be. And hold these people accountable and help people all over the country hold them accountable. Because that’s what needs to happen,” she said.
She added, “I’m going to hammer that message and make sure that the American people’s voices are heard. So I’ll be a very loud vocal voice and I’ll take it all over the country.”
While Greene has caused an uproar among Democrats, Congressional Republicans have also sought to distance themselves from her, as IJR reported.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) released a statement blasting her, without mentioning her by names, as he wrote, “Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country.”
“Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality,” McConnell added.
Additionally, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said, “We should have nothing to do with Marjorie Taylor Greene. We should repudiate the things she said and move away from her.”
“If we don’t, then our opposition tries to brand us with their image and with their point of view, which has been detrimental to any party that doesn’t do that,” he added.
Greene has previously appeared to signal that she supports killing prominent Democratic politicians and espoused conspiracy theories about the 9/11 terrorist attacks and deadly school shootings.
