Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is disputing that she claimed that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) tried to have her murdered and says she will not apologize for her comments.

On Monday, a reporter from The New York Post asked the Ocasio-Cortez about calls for her to apologize for her comment.

“That’s not the quote,” she responded. “I will not apologize for what I said.”

Last month, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that it was “unacceptable” that the stock trading company Robinhood had restricted “retail investors from purchasing stock while hedge funds are freely able to trade the stock as they see fit.”

She also said she would support a Congressional hearing to investigate the move.

Cruz shared her tweet and added that he “fully” agreed with her sentiment.

However, she fired back, “I am happy to work with Republicans on this issue where there’s common ground, but you almost had me murdered 3 weeks ago so you can sit this one out.”

“Happy to work [with] almost any other GOP that aren’t trying to get me killed,” she added.

Happy to work w/ almost any other GOP that aren’t trying to get me killed.

In the meantime if you want to help, you can resign. https://t.co/4mVREbaqqm

Her response led to calls from Republican members for her to apologize for suggesting Cruz tried to have her murdered.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) wrote a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) where he noted Ocasio-Cortez “accused Senator Ted Cruz, in essence, of attempted murder.”

He continued, “It is completely unacceptable behavior for a Member of Congress to make this kind of scurrilous charge against another member in the House or Senate for simply engaging in speech and debate regarding electors as they interpreted the Constitution. I ask you to call on her to immediately apologize and retract her comments.”

Roy also said that if she did not apologize “we will be forced to find alternative means to condemn this regrettable statement.”
