Former President Donald Trump is speaking out to pay tribute to the late conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.
Trump called into Fox News on Wednesday and said he spoke with Limbaugh “three or four days ago” to check in on his battle with lung cancer.
“He was very brave. He, in theory, could have been four months ago, really. He was fighting to the very end. He was a fighter… just a great gentleman,” Trump added.
When asked how he felt about how Limbaugh “carried on your message” or “chose to agree or disagree with the policies you had as commander in chief.”
Trump called Limbaugh “unique” and “irreplaceable.”
“He was a fantastic man, a fantastic talent, and people, whether they loved him or not, they respected him. They really did.”

Trump also addressed his decision to award Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom during his 2020 State of the Union Address, “It was a great honor to do so when we gave the Medal of Freedom. It was something special. It was an incredible night.”
“We gave it during the State of the Union address, and it was… especially half the room, half the room went crazy, and the other half the room, they knew he should get it, but it was special, and he was special,” he added.
Limbaugh’s wife, Kathryn, announced that he had died on Wednesday morning, as IJR reported.
