Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is weighing in after former President Donald Trump’s ban on Facebook was upheld.
“I see this and think about the amount of power that Facebook has,” Warren said during an interview with Washington Post Live, noting that Facebook calls its independent Oversight Board the “Supreme Court.”
She added, “Does that tell you how much power they see themselves as having? More power than government.”
“Last I saw, nobody did advise and consent, nobody nominated those people other than Mark Zuckerberg,” the senator continued, calling for the “break up” of “big tech, including Facebook.”

Earlier in the interview, Warren was asked for her thoughts on the oversight board’s decision made on Wednesday regarding Trump’s account. His ban was extended for six months and then Facebook will have to decide what to do next.
Warren responded, “I am much happier with Donald Trump off the air, off Facebook. I don’t like having to get up every morning and go through what he’s done. I think he poses a lot of risk.”
The senator later added that she would call for a “forever ban” on Trump.
In announcing the decision to uphold Trump’s ban on Wednesday, the board said, “Trump’s posts during the Capitol riot severely violated Facebook’s rules and encouraged and legitimized violence,” as IJR reported on. It also said that Facebook violated its own rules by “imposing a suspension that was ‘indefinite.’”
