House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has not matched any donations despite promises to, according to a report.
Axios reported this week that the House speaker’s campaign committee has promised several times to donors that Pelosi personally would match financial contributions. However, “as of the last reporting period she hadn’t provided a dime of her own money,” Axios reports, citing records.
Noting “deceptive political fundraising tactics are under scrutiny,” Axios reports, “Pelosi’s campaign has gone a step further than most — promising that she herself would put up those matching funds. It hasn’t reported any such contributions.”
There have been at least 50 fundraising emails, dated from January to March, promising to “personally” match contributions up to a certain amount, according to the report. Axios, however, cites another political emails database that suggests her “matching offers continued through at least last week.”
One email from January read, “This is so critical, I’m personally 4x-matching all gifts for these final 24 hours.”
“Yet reports filed with the Federal Election Commission show Pelosi did not donate any personal funds to her campaign during the first quarter, nor has she ever done so,” Axios’ Lachlan Markay writes.
Pelosi’s net worth in 2018 was $114.66 million.
In the first quarter of 2021, the California Democrat’s campaign raised $4 million.
