Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) is slamming his Republican colleagues who want to punish two House Republicans picked for the Jan. 6 select committee.

“It tells you where Kevin McCarthy is and where the Republican Party is,” Schiff said during Monday’s CNN “New Day” interview. “That is, that they’re an anti-truth party.”

He added, “It just shows how much [the party] has been hollowed out by the former president.”

There have been calls by a growing group of House Republicans to punish Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) for joining the select committee that will investigate the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

“Supporting Pelosi’s unprecedented move to reject McCarthy’s picks was a bridge too far,” a Republican member told CNN.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is adding Kinzinger to the select committee, as IJR reported on.

“He brings great patriotism to the Committee’s mission: to find the facts and protect our Democracy,” Pelosi said in a statement on Sunday.

Kinzinger has spoken out against McCarthy and former President Donald Trump. He previously suggested the Republican Party is “basically the Titanic.”

The Republican lawmaker said in his own statement, “Let me be clear, I’m a Republican dedicated to conservative values, but I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution — and while this is not the position to be in or sought out, when duty calls, I will always answer.”

Pelosi appointed eight members to the select committee earlier this month, as IJR reported on. Among those selected include Cheney and Schiff.

She rejected two of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) picks so he pulled all of his picks.

McCarthy said of Cheney and Kinzinger’s appointments to the select committee, “Speaker Pelosi’s departure from this serious-minded approach has destroyed the select committee’s credibility.”

The House select committee’s work is set to begin this week. There is scheduled to be public testimony from four police officers on Tuesday.
