Fox News’ Chris Wallace believes that President Joe Biden can mount a come back after an attack in Afghanistan left at least 13 U.S. service members and scores of civilians dead.

But he says there is a scenario where the withdrawal from Afghanistan could essentially end Biden’s presidency.

On Friday, Wallace noted that Biden previously expressed his belief that there should not be a large troop presence in Afghanistan and disagreed with then-President Barack Obama’s decision to deploy thousands of more troops.

“We’re going to have zero troops, at least officially, on the ground, and that raises the real question, when they say, well, we have an over the horizon capability to take out ISIS-K, or Al Qaeda, or the Taliban. I read somewhere today, someone saying it’s an over the horizon — ‘over the horizon capability,” Wallace said.

The Fox News Sunday anchor continued, “We are so diminished in our ability to deal with all the jihadists that will come into that part of the world, into Afghanistan, and that’s going to raise real questions. You know, as bad as yesterday was, the president can come back from that, but if there is an attack on the U.S. homeland from Afghanistan after the withdrawal of all of our troops — that could be curtains for the Biden presidency.”

Wallace’s comments come after an explosion in Kabul, Afghanistan left scores of Afghan civilians and at least 13 U.S. service members dead. The attack comes as the U.S. is nearing an Aug. 31 deadline to complete its withdrawal.

During an event at the White House on Thursday, Biden vowed to strike back at those who were behind the attack.

A new poll found that a majority of voters believe that the president deserves blame for the attack. But, a majority also say they believe it is right for the U.S. to withdraw from Afghanistan.
