President Joe Biden is receiving a failing grade for his first year in office, according to House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and a new Politico poll.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Scalise said, “Tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary since Joe Biden took the oath of office as President of the United States, and even if you were grading on a curve, by all objective reporting, he would get an ‘F’ for failing the American people on all the challenges that we see our country face.”

“As many of my colleagues here talked about, just start with Covid. This was the signature campaign platform that Joe Biden ran on. How many times did during the campaign did candidate Joe Biden say, ‘I’m going to shut down the virus’? He actually bragged that he had a plan on day one to combat the virus,” Scalise continued.

He added, “And then what happened just a few weeks ago before the governors across the country? He admitted he doesn’t have a plan. There is no federal solution, and he dumped it on the governors of our states because he’s failed over, and over again.”

Critics of Biden have seized on his 2020 campaign promise to “shut down” the coronavirus, to blast his handling of the pandemic as they noted the country is experience a resurgence of new cases.

Scalise’s comments come one day before the one-year anniversary of Biden being sworn in as the 46th president.

Additionally, a Politico poll released on Wednesday morning found that 11% of Americans give Biden an “A” grade for his handling of key issues. Meanwhile, 37% of Americans gave him an “F.”

Biden received his highest mark for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 18% giving him an “A.” His handling of the economy and climate change were tied for second place, with 10% giving him an “A” for each.

The issue he received the lowest marks for is “restoring unity,” with just 8% of Americans giving him an “A” and 40% giving him an “F.”
