President Joe Biden is raising eyebrows with a statement he made about protests that broke out after the death of George Floyd.

During an event at the White House on Wednesday, Biden said, “Two summers ago, in the middle of a pandemic, we saw protests across the nation the likes of which you hadn’t seen since the 1960s.”

“They unified people of every race and generation. Athletes and sports leagues boycotted and postponed games.  Companies and workers proclaimed ‘Black Lives Matter.’ Students staged solidarity walkouts,” he continued.

Finally, Biden added, “From Europe to the Middle East to Asia to Australia, people saw their own fight for justice and equality in what we were trying to do. The message is clear: Enough! Just, ‘Enough.'”

Unified people? Burning down businesses? https://t.co/HwBbjtj6ne

Rewind the tapes: I remember riots, violence and a shit ton of innocent being attacked and fleeing cities like LA and Chicago to safety. https://t.co/H0lqfT4vXJ

Biden thinks riots are unifying. https://t.co/EPPhxyxvuK

This is very strange given the events of that summer – the "allowing space to riot" – gave rise to the loons thinking 1/6 was an acceptable form of political expression.

Protests are fine, but papering over the reality of many of those "mostly peaceful" protests is dangerous. https://t.co/Nku6KPEIs9

Biden’s comments refer to the protests that broke out after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck and killed him in May 2020.

Demonstrators gathered in cities across the U.S. in the name of racial justice.

A study conducted by The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) analyzed protests in all 50 states from May 26 to August 22.

It concluded that 93% of the protests were peaceful.

During that same period, demonstrators set up the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) in Seattle, Washington, which ended after there were several shootings and allegations of sexual assaults. Protesters also set fire to courthouses, and vandalized and looted stores.

According to one estimate, the collective damage sustained during racial justice protests in 140 cities in 2020 was expected to cost the insurance industry $2 billion.
