Politico Roasted Over Tweet Declaring Biden Is ‘Back in the Game’: ‘His Approval Rating Is 31 Percent’

WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 28: U.S. President Joe Biden reads a note from an aide saying that the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) for America Act had received enough yes votes in the House of Representatives to pass during a meeting in the South Court Auditorium of the White House on July 28, 2022 in Washington, DC. Politico triggered an avalanche of mockery after declaring that “somehow” President Joe Biden is “back in the game” politically.

The outlet tweeted Thursday night, “Somehow, someway, Joe Biden is back in the game.”

“After enduring a brutal year, Biden is suddenly on the verge of a turnaround that, the White House believes, could salvage his summer — and alter the trajectory of his presidency,” it added.

It linked to an article that stated, “Over the next few weeks, the president will have to land centerpieces of his domestic agenda aimed at boosting the nation’s global competitiveness and revamping whole swaths of its economy. Major decisions on student loans and expanding abortion rights hang in the balance. There’s also the matter of containing twin outbreaks of monkeypox and the coronavirus, the last of which Biden just spent five days personally fending off.”

“If that weren’t enough, he’s juggling a slate of foreign affairs challenges as well — headlined by longer-term efforts to reset with Iran on a nuclear deal and negotiate the release of a basketball star and another American jailed in Russia,” it added.

The outlet noted that Biden has a “massive political to-do list set against the backdrop of a midterm election likely to cost Democrats full control of Washington.” Still, it added, “White House officials are approaching the moment with cautious optimism, energized by the fresh jolt of momentum for Biden’s top priorities in Congress.”

Specifically, it pointed to the “prospect of an eleventh-hour breakthrough on Democrats’ climate, tax and health care package after more than a year of stumbles” that “captured the White House’s imagination.”

However, the suggestion that the president is “back in the game” was widely mocked by Twitter users who noted Biden’s approval rating is hovering in the 30s.

Conservative commentator Katie Pavlich wrote, “His approval rating is 31 percent.”

31% approval. 23% approval with independents. 19% approval with Hispanics. Inflation closing in on 10%. 75% of Democrats don’t want him to seek a second term. Politico offers a different take on the state of affairs for the president: https://t.co/LhppAfAanF

Yes, on the day that Americans learned that their real disposable personal income declined for the second quarter in a row and the White House tried to convince them of another incredible "transition," Biden's mojo is certainly peaking.

According to FiveThirtyEight, 55.6% of Americans disapprove of Biden’s job performance, while 39.4% approve.
