Actress Selma Blair addressed her exit from “Dancing with the Stars” due to complications with multiple sclerosis.
After Monday night’s show, Blair told Page Six, “This was a really emotional night for me. Because it was filled with so much love for me and my love for everyone here is really, really, really returned.”
Blair, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018, also shared what she learned about herself while being on the show.
“I learned that I could do things that I didn’t even think I wanted to do anymore. I learned that with passion and [hope] that you could feel as beautiful as the people that you’re watching. That it can be inspiring,” she said.
Continuing, Blair said: “For me, there’s never any, like, despair in comparison when you’re with a crowd like this, with these celebrities and these pros. I’m so proud of this show and this production for welcoming a couple of us [like Daniel Durant, who is deaf] where it’s just a little extra of a challenge. But look at the way we just prove ourselves in different ways.”
Blair made the emotional announcement on Monday’s episode that she could no longer participate in the competition after receiving her test results from an MRI.
“I’ve been monitored and in touch with my doctors this whole process. These MRIs and the results came back, and it just all adds up to, I can’t … I can’t go on with the competition,” she told her dancing partner Sasha Farber during rehearsal.
Blair further explained that dancing in the competition is “way too much” for the safety of her bones.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease that potentially attacks the brain and spinal cord. There is no cure, according to MayoClinic.
Before leaving the competition, both Blair and Farber danced “the waltz” together one last time on the ballroom floor.
