With crime becoming a salient issue that has narrowed several races across the country, Democrats and liberals are scrambling for a way to react.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) claimed there is a Republican-led conspiracy theory warping voters’ perception of crime and how safe people are in Democrat-led states.

And on Tuesday, “The View” co-host Joy Behar came up with a totally new issue that no one has talked about before: Jan. 6.

“I’d like to remind everybody that it was not the Democrats who stormed the government that day and tried to kill the vice president, OK?” Behar said.

She went on, “And the Republicans coming up to the next election, which is next week, by the way, all they do is talk about crime, crime, crime. I looked it up. Murders in major cities have fallen by 4% so far in 2022 compared with the same period a year ago.”

Finally, she dropped this doozy, “So crime is not on the rise. It’s actually going down under Biden.”

In September, Axios highlighted a midyear survey of large law enforcement agencies which found murders are dropping in large cities. So Behar at least had something right. But she apparently missed an important piece of data in the survey: violent crime continued to rise.

Violent crime rose 4.2% from Jan. 1, 2022, to June 30, 2022, compared to the same period in 2021. Robberies soared 12% while aggravated assaults rose by 3%.

Meanwhile, homicides declined 2.4% and rapes fell by 5% in major cities.

And in yet another crucial piece of data Behar left out, Axios reported, “Compared to 2019 midyear figures, the same cities in total have experienced a 50% increase in homicides and a roughly 36% increase in aggravated assaults.”

“And not all cities are experiencing declines in homicides. So far this year, Atlanta has seen a whopping 20% jump in homicides, while New Orleans has experienced a nearly 40% spike,” it continued. “Baltimore, Dallas, Phoenix, and Denver also have seen jumps in homicides this year, while Albuquerque, Houston, Detroit, and Miami are experiencing declines.”

Even if every major city was seeing a decline in homicides compared to previous years, there is still the fact that homicides rose in 2020 and 2021.

Democrats and liberals apparently think the only thing Americans are concerned about is that they’ll be shot dead or thrown in front of a subway, and if they show voters the data, they can convince people that they’re actually safe.

Telling voters that the murder rate is not as high as it was after it rose for two years in a row is not really that comforting. But it’s not just murders they are concerned about. They’re concerned about assaults and robberies and having their homes or cars broken into and their property stolen.

And if Democrats and their allies can’t realize that, they’re going to be in for a big surprise as the election results come in.
