New details are emerging about what transpired when Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was assaulted in their San Francisco home by an intruder.

During a segment of NBC’s “Today” on Friday, reporter Miguel Almaguer said, “When officers arrived here at the Pelosi home exactly a week ago today, they initially didn’t have any idea exactly what was going on.”

“What was unclear: what was happening inside the property,” he added.

Sources reportedly told NBC News law enforcement was unaware they had been called to the home of the House speaker.

Additionally, the sources said the front door was opened by Paul Pelosi “after a knock and announce.”

New details about the Paul Pelosi attack are revealed: Paul Pelosi opened the door for the cops and “did not immediately declare an emergency or leave his home.”

But according to the sources, he “did not immediately declare an emergency” or attempt to leave the property.

Instead, NBC reports the 82-year-old walked “several feet” back to the foyer and toward the assailant.

The outlet also notes it was not clear whether Paul Pelosi had already been injured or what his mental state was.

However, when police officers asked what was going on, the defendant responded, “Everything’s good,” and a struggle followed. Police then reportedly witnessed the assailant strike Paul Pelosi with a hammer in the head.

Additionally, NBC reports it is unclear why he did not signal he was in distress or try to flee.

Almaguer also noted it is not clear “exactly what unfolded between Mr. Pelosi and the suspect for the 30 minutes they were alone inside that house before police arrived.”

The new details come a day after Paul Pelosi was released from the hospital, where he underwent surgery for a fractured skull and other injuries following the attack.

A man who appears to have been steeped in online conspiracy theories allegedly broke into the Pelosis’ San Francisco home in search of the House speaker last week.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced on Monday the suspect would be charged with residential burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, false imprisonment of an elder, threats to a public official and their family, and attempted murder.

Jenkins told reporters the suspect conveyed to law enforcement after the attack that he wanted to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and “If Nancy [Pelosi] were to tell [him] the ‘truth,’ he would let her go, and if she ‘lied,’ he was going to break ‘her kneecaps.’”
