Rep. Katie Porter’s (D-Calif.) newly announced campaign for U.S. Senate bid is not getting the best reviews in some corners of the media.

The co-hosts of ABC’s “The View” discussed the California congresswoman’s decision to jump into the race even while Sen. Dianne Feinstein, 89, (D-Calif.) has not shared whether she plans to run for reelection in 2024.

Whoopi Goldberg noted there is speculation Feinstein will not run again. However, since she has not publicly made a decision, she pointed out some view Porter’s announcement as disrespectful.

Sunny Hostin highlighted the “unity” among Democrats in the House during the speaker vote.

“And I think that unity came from the fact that Hakeem Jeffries waited his turn and waited for Nancy Pelosi to sort of bless him and say, yes, I’m going to step down, you may step up,” she said.

She added, “Dianne Feinstein, I mean she has been a lion of the Senate … she’s put in her papers for 2024 basically saying I’m going to run again. And so there’s some tension there, and I’m surprised Katie Porter wouldn’t get her blessing first.”

Sara Haines then pointed out there could have been discussions between Porter and Feinstein the public does not know about.

Hostin chimed in to say she would love to see Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) run for Senate, too, but stressed she believes Feinstein should announce she is not running again before candidates announce their campaigns.

Meanwhile, conservative co-host Alyssa Farah-Griffin called Porter “super sharp.”

However, she said there were three parts about the timing of Porter’s announcement that bothered her. The first was the fact Feinstein has not publicly shared whether she will run again.

“You always stand on the shoulders of the people before you. [Feinstein] served in the Senate for, I believe, 31 years. She was the first female mayor of San Francisco,” Farah Griffin said before adding about Porter, “She needs to know who paved the way for her.”

Alyssa calls Porter "super sharp" but argues that "she needs to know who paved the way for her" and leave the seat to Feinstein.
They also suggest Porter is too inexperienced to run for Senate.

Farah Griffin also noted the campaign announcement came as California is facing deadly flooding.

And finally, the co-host expressed concern Porter is running for Senate came after serving just two terms in the House.
