Navarone Garibaldi Garcia, the only son of Priscilla Presley and half brother of the late Lisa Marie Presley got personal.
In an exclusive interview with People on Wednesday, Garcia, who has managed to stay low key compared to his famous family members, opened up about being known for who he is.
“A lot of people know about me, but they don’t know me,” he shared.
He spoke about what his experience was like as a child having Elvis Presley’s ex-wife as his mother.
“I got in trouble more than everybody else, because kids’ parents would find out who my mom was, and they’d want a reason to talk to her. I wasn’t very comfortable with it,” Garcia, 35, explained.
He is also the son of producer Marco Garibaldi. Priscilla Presley and Garibaldi never married, but remained a couple until their split in 2006.
He revealed his father did not like when his mother played Elvis Presley’s music in their home.
“I think my dad had a bit of a complex about it. It wasn’t until after he left that my mom started playing his music again freely,” he said.
After Priscilla Presley and Marco Garibaldi parted ways, Garcia said he and his father were able to be friends.
“The disciplinarian role didn’t work between us, but the friend role did,” he recalled. “He wanted someone to go out drinking with.”
He opened up about the loss of his half sister, Lisa Marie Presley, who died on Jan. 12 after going into cardiac arrest.
“It’s still so surreal,” he said.
On Jan. 13, he paid tribute to his “big sister” on his Instagram page and implied that they were estranged at the time of her death.
“Big sister… i hope you are now at peace and happy with your Dad and your son by your side. I know the past couple years weren’t easy for you, and I wish things had been different between us. regardless, you are my sister and I’m sending love and prayers for your journey home. I still can’t believe this, I’m lost for words,” he wrote.
He concluded, “Love you sis. Beijos.”
