Trump Announces New Round of Digital Trading Cards After ‘Great Success’ of the First Batch

If you missed your opportunity to pay for a graphic of former President Donald Trump as an astronaut, fear not, you have another chance.

This time you may have the chance to buy a digital card featuring Trump crossing the Delaware River.

On Tuesday, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I am pleased to inform you that, due to the great success of my previously launched DIGITAL TRADING CARDS, we are doing it again, SERIES 2, AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW.”

“Have fun!” he added.

Semafor’s Shelby Talcott noted the former president also posted about the new batch of digital cards on Instagram, marking his first post on the platform in over two years.

In a separate post, he wrote, “I hope everyone notices, [and] I’m sure the Fake News won’t, that I’m leaving the price of the Trading Cards the same as last time, even though they are selling for MANY TIMES MORE (It’s called the MARKET!), [and] sold out almost immediately, because I want my fans [and] supporters to make money, [and] have fun doing it.”

“I could have raised the price MUCH HIGHER, [and] I believe it still would have sold well, with a lot more money coming to me, but I didn’t choose to do so. I WILL BE GIVEN NO ‘NICE GUY’ CREDIT?” he added.

Trump teased a “major announcement” in December, which at the time sparked speculation it was about the campaign.

However, the excitement soon turned to frustration even among some of his fans as they discovered the announcement was digital cards that cost $99 each and are only available online.

Still, the 45,000 cards sold out in less than a day, bringing in an estimated $4.5 million from the sales.

The new batch of cards will also cost $99 each.

And the website notes, “These are just like baseball cards, but you collect them digitally, on your computer or phone. All you need is an email address and a credit card or crypto to start collecting 1, 10, 20 or 100.”

Author Nick Adams cheered the news and the price as he tweeted, “President Trump’s digital trading cards were so wildly successful that he just released a SECOND batch! Let’s give The President some credit, he could have raised prices MASSIVELY for these patriotic NFTs, but he chose not to so his supporters could take advantage of this incredible investment opportunity.”

Chances are these cards will sell out pretty quickly if the past is any kind of indication. In fact, given his recovery in the polls, they might sell faster. So you’ve gotta give Trump credit for continuing to find ways to rake in money and keep people talking about him.

The first batch came as the former president had announced his campaign, but before he had really started holding campaign events. And it seemed as though he was not really into running, but figured he could use the attention of officially being a candidate to rake in money.

Now that Trump is holding campaign events and leading in the polls again, this second round of cards feels less like an attempt to use his presidential bid simply as a vehicle to rake in millions.

But there is still something so strange about a major presidential candidate selling “digital trading cards,” which offer the buyer nothing tangible. It gives the campaign the vibe of an infomercial you would see at 2 a.m. that you watch because you cannot sleep and there is nothing else worth watching at the time.
