Former President Donald Trump is sharing what is the first step he would take if he won the 2024 election to help bring prices down.

During a CNN town hall event on Wednesday, a voter identified as Danielle Rieger asked about how he would address the economy as president.

“Over the past two years, we have seen the prices for everything skyrocket. From food to gas to utilities and insurance costs, many people’s bills are up several hundred dollars a month, including mine,” she noted.

She asked, “If elected president again, what is the first thing you would do to help bring down the costs?”

Trump responded with an initial three words, “Drill baby drill.”

The audience cheered in response.

“We were energy independent, we were soon going to be energy dominant,” he continued, adding, “Nobody had ever done what I did. We got oil down to $1.87… we were doing incredible.”

Trump went on:

“These stupid fools ended it. And [gas] went from $1.87… to five, six, seven, eight, and even nine dollars. And your electricity bills went through the roof, your heating bills went through the roof, and that’s what started inflation. And it hasn’t stopped because people are paying now for bacon and for eggs two and three times what it was just a little while ago.”

The average price for a gallon of gas hit $5 in June 2022.

As of Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of gas is down to $3.53.

And in June 2022, inflation rose to a four decade high of 9.1%.

However, since then the pace of inflation has slowed. And in April, it rose 4.9%.
