House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is blasting the news of Hunter Biden’s plea deal.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, McCarthy said, “My first reaction is that it continues to show the two-tier system in America.”

“If you are the president’s leading political opponent, the DOJ tries to literally put you in jail and give you prison time. If you are the president’s son, you get a sweetheart deal,” he continued.

However, McCarthy argued the plea deal would “enhance” House Republicans’ investigation into Hunter Biden because the Department of Justice “should not be able to withhold any information now saying there’s a pending investigation.”

A court filing on Tuesday showed Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, will plead guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax.

Do you think it was a good deal?

The younger Biden will also plead guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

According to The Hill, if a judge accepts the plea deal, Hunter Biden would likely avoid prison time.

White House Counsel Office spokesman Ian Sams told reporters about the news, “The president and first lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life.”

In a post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump said, “Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere ‘traffic ticket.’ Our system is BROKEN!”

Trump was indicted on 37 counts earlier this month for allegedly mishandling classified documents.

While Republicans argued Hunter Biden’s deal was too good, CNN legal analyst Jennifer Rodgers argued it is “totally standard” for people in similar situations.

“I think it’s a good deal for Hunter Biden in that he will stay out of prison and end up with only two misdemeanors on his record. But it’s certainly not a sweetheart deal out of line with what happens in the rest of the country,” Rodgers said.
