Chaos broke out on the House floor after lawmakers voted to censure Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

On Wednesday, the House voted 213-209 to pass a censure resolution targeting Schiff.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was interrupted by angry Democratic lawmakers as he tried to announce the results of the vote.

“On this votes, the yays are 213 and the nays are 209. With six answering present, the resolution is adopted,” McCarthy said before banging his gavel and adding, “The House will be in order.”

After he banged the gavel again, some lawmakers switched to start chanting “Disgrace!”

The resolution came in response to Schiff’s comments about the FBI’s Trump-Russia probe.

It passed after a provision that would have fined Schiff $16 million was taken out.

The resolution accused the California Democrat of spreading “falsehoods, misrepresentations and abuses of sensitive information.”

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), who introduced the measure, said, “Adam Schiff launched an all-out political campaign built on baseless distortions against a sitting U.S. president.”

According to The New York Times, “It is rare for a member of Congress to be censured, a punishment that amounts to a public reprimand. The House has censured members just 24 times in the chamber’s history, and typically only after a finding of wrongdoing. Before Mr. Schiff, just two members of the House had been censured in almost four decades.”

Speaking on the House floor, Schiff told Republicans, “You honor me with your enmity.”

“Donald Trump is under indictment for actions that jeopardize our national security and McCarthy would spend the nation’s time on petty political payback, thinking he can censure or fine Trump’s opposition into submission,” he continued.

He vowed, “I will not yield. Not one inch.”

McCarthy blocked Schiff from continuing to serve on the House Intelligence Committee in January.
