The mother and wife of two of the five passengers who died aboard the Titan submersible spoke out about her tragic loss.

On Sunday, Christine Dawood, who was aboard the submersible’s support ship, the Polar Prince, when her husband, Shahzada Dawood, and teenage son, Suleman Dawood, went missing, revealed to the BBC how she reacted when she heard communication was lost on the vessel.

“I think I lost hope when we passed the 96-hour mark,” she said.

Christine Dawood added she sent her family on shore a message and said she was “preparing for the worst.”

However, she said her daughter, Alina, was optimistic “until the call with the Coast Guard. When they basically informed us that they found debris.”

Christine Dawood fondly shared memories of her son, whose hobby was solving the Rubix Cube, something he took with him everywhere.

She explained he taught himself how to use the puzzle through videos on Youtube and was “really fast at it” and could solve it in 12 seconds.

“He said, ‘I’m going to solve the Rubik’s Cube 3,700 meters below sea at the Titanic,'” she told the BBC.

Christine Dawood also shared what the last moments with her husband and son were like.

“Well, we just hugged and joked actually, because Shahzada was so excited to go down, he was like a little child,” she said.

She said her husband “had this ability of childlike excitement.”

“I was really happy for them because both of them, they really wanted to do that for a very long time,” she stated.

Initially, Christine Dawood explained it was supposed to be her and her husband taking the trip to see the Titanic wreckage, but it was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to People.

“Then I stepped back and gave them space to set [Suleman] up because he really wanted to go,” she added.

When speaking about her husband’s impact on the world, she said, “He started so many amazing projects.”

Christine Dawood said he helped many people and she would like to continue his legacy along with her daughter.

As she concluded the interview, she said, “I really, really miss them.”
