A boy was given a PlayStation after having the police called on him for soliciting area residents by offering to do yard work in Hapeville, Georgia.
The Hapeville Police Department posted the story to their Facebook page offering the full details and a video clip earlier this week. They wrote, “Officer Colleran was dispatched to a call wanting a juvenile removed from the area.”
Upon arrival, the officer is noted to have “made contact with a young man,” but found him non-threatening.
The “young man explained he was in the area because he wanted to do yard work: pulling weeds, cutting grass and trimming hedges to save up for a PlayStation,” the post went on.
The boy involved was noted to be “polite, respectful and truthful.”
This led Officer Colleran to empathize with him because he is “a gamer himself.”
Based on the boy’s determination, good manners, and being misunderstood, Officer Colleran decided to surprise him with the gift he was working toward.
In addition to this the post notes, “Officer Colleran and some of his friends were able to not only get this young man the video game system but a gift card to pay for the membership so he could play immediately.”
The video clip shared in the Facebook post shows the moment that Officer Colleran brought the boy to his squad car. He opened the trunk and revealed the PlayStation for the boy, who instantly rubbed his face in disbelief and then hugged the officer.
This display of support for the boy was praised by the police department as they also pointed out, “Officer Colleran made sure that this young man knew they would play on the same team online soon!”
