‘At Our Limit’: Dem Governor Says of Migrant Crisis

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - SEPTEMBER 13: New York Gov. Kathy Hochul speaks during a briefing on the new BA.2.86 COVID-19 variant on September 13, 2023 in New York City. While BA.2.86 has not yet been detected in New York, Hochul indicated that people should take precautions as the vaccines for the new Omicron variants become widely available this fall. The cautionary measures have been suggested as the state’s COVID-19 hospitalizations increased over the summer months. The governor also touched upon a stronger “conceal and carry” gun law going into effect today as well as the migrant crisis, and referenced her meetings with the White House stating that the migrant crisis is a “federal problem in need of a federal solution needing federal authority”. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) recently acknowledged the border crisis, noting the need for heightened “controls” at the U.S. southern border.

She stated, “We want them to have a limit on who can come across the border.”

“It is too open right now,” she went on.

Hochul noted the illegal immigrants crossing the border are not just Mexicans or other South American migrants but people from all over the world.

She expressed concerns about having masses of these unvetted immigrants coming to New York and noted that 125,000 illegal immigrants have now entered the state.

“We are being taxed,” Hochul admitted. She then went on to express pride in the state’s diversity but called for limitations.

“Congress has to put more controls at the border,” she declared.

Do you believe the border crisis needs to be under control?

Hochul noted border security should be doubled, or potentially quadrupled.

According to the Federation for American Immigration Reform, New York is a sanctuary state, and therefore does not allow state and local officials to enforce federal immigration laws. The IJR has reported New York City Mayor Eric Adams has repeatedly discussed concerns over the border crisis.

In addition, former acting ICE Director Tom Homan told Fox Business, “The cartels are watching the action of the U.S. government.”

He noted that out of the record-breaking 11,000 illegal immigrants who recently crossed the border in a single day, just 119 of them were sent back out of the country.

Homan also pointed out that nearly three million illegal immigrants have crossed into the U.S. this year alone.

He detailed that these numbers have increased every year of the Biden administration, stating, “With Joe Biden, we’ll have over seven million illegal encounters.”

“This is the biggest national security failure in the country since 9/11,” Homan said.
