The daughter of former Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton revealed she is home recovering after being admitted into the intensive care unit (ICU) due to a rare form of pneumonia.

On Monday, Retton’s daughter McKenna Kelley, 26, posted an update on her Instagram page updating her followers on her mother’s condition.

“Mom is HOME & in recovery mode. We still have a long road of recovery ahead of us, but baby steps,” she wrote.

Kelley also thanked everyone for their overwhelming “love and support.”

She added, “Grateful doesn’t scrape the surface of the posture of our hearts.”

“Thank you Jesus, thank you doctors & nurses, thank you to this loving community of support,” Kelley. concluded.

The update came after Kelley first announced Retton, 55, was “fighting for her life” weeks prior on a Spotfund fundraising page. The Olympic gold medalist did not have medical insurance.

On Oct. 19, Retton’s daughter Shayla Kelley Schrepfer, 23, posted an update on her Instagram page telling her followers that her mother had suffered a “pretty scary setback” and was still in ICU.

“At the beginning of this week, we were going on the up and up. We were so excited, seeing so much progress, and then yesterday we had a pretty scary setback,” Schrepfer shared. “She is still in ICU, and we’re just working through some things as far as her setback goes.”

A day after news broke of her mother’s hospitalization on Oct. 10, Schrepfer informed her Instagram followers in a video that Retton, 55, was “still fighting.”

“It’s going to be a day-by-day process, and we hope that you guys will respect her boundaries as we want to keep the details between her and our family right now. She’s been treated with the best of the best professionals here, and it has been such a blessing to have their hands on her,” she said.

In a statement to People, at the time, Schrepfer said the family’s “number one concern is the well being (sic) of our mom.”

“That being said, being by her side is our first priority,” she added.
