‘We Need New Leaders’: Blake Masters Announces Bid for Congress

CHANDLER, ARIZONA - AUGUST 02: Republican U.S. senatorial candidate Blake Masters speaks during his election night watch party on August 02, 2022 in Chandler, Arizona. Masters, who has the blessing of former President Donald Trump, has seen his lead in the polls in recent days extend to double digits among likely GOP voters over businessman Jim Lamon and state Attorney General Mark Brnovich. Former Arizona Republican Senate candidate Blake Masters announced that he was running for Congress, citing the need for “new leaders.”

In a video posted to X, Masters spoke about how he would be vying for a seat in the U.S. House in Arizona’s 8th congressional district.

“Biden has failed,” Masters wrote in his post. “We need Trump back. We need to stop inflation, Build the Wall, avoid WW3, and secure Arizona’s water future. We need to fight for our families.”

I'm running for Congress, to fight for Arizona's 8th.

Biden has failed. We need Trump back. We need to stop inflation, Build the Wall, avoid WW3, and secure Arizona's water future. We need to fight for our families.

In his video, Masters explains how “Arizona is a special place” where he and his wife have grown up since they were children and are now raising their three children.

Masters notes that they “are so blessed to call Arizona home,” but adds that “the sad truth is life is getting harder for too many families in Arizona. Joe Biden’s economy is squeezing our middle class. Our border with Mexico, it’s wide open! It’s chaotic and it’s lawless.”

“We need new leaders, people who haven’t spent their lives in politics,” Masters adds in his video.

Masters, who lost his Arizona Senate bid to Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) in November 2022, was previously reported to be announcing that he would be running for Senate in 2024 for Sen. Kyrsten Sinema‘s seat, a former member of the Democratic Party who now identifies as an Independent.

However, in early October, Kari Lake announced that she would be running for Senate for Sinema’s seat. This came after Lake, a former television journalist unsuccessfully ran for Arizona governor. She centered her campaign around supporting former President Donald Trump’s claims about election fraud.

“We can control our border, we can build an economy that actually works for the middle class, and we can make sure that Arizona’s the best place in the whole world to live, work, and raise a family,” Masters added.
