A moose in Massachusetts decided to visit an elementary school during the morning drop-off.
According to WCVB Channel 5 Boston, the curious creature sauntered up to the Nakoa Elementary School and walked alongside cars in the drop-off lane on Oct. 30.
During the video footage people shouting “Holy cannoli. That is crazy” and “How beautiful” can be heard.
The moose seemed to appreciate these compliments, and even stopped to look in the school windows before wandering over to the playground.
Paraprofessional Bonnie Albert said, “So to see it where I work and come here every day was pretty cool.”
She went on, “We came, as normal, around 8:35. We were all kind of looking at each other like ‘there’s no way that this is a moose. Like this is crazy.’”
The children were shouting in excitement, and Albert recalled, “All the parents, too, in like the pick-up line. They’re sticking their heads out the window like, videoing it. It was pretty funny.”
“I’ve always wanted to see a moose. I’ve never seen one before, so being pretty close to him was pretty impressive,” Albert added.
The moose also displayed proper pedestrian safety to everyone as it left. A photo of the tall visitor was snapped just as he crossed the road.
“He just walked on by crossing the crosswalk, using the right path for it,” Albert concluded.
According to the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, Moose are native to the area but nearly disappeared due to excess hunting and loss of habitat in the 1700s. Thanks to conservation efforts, the population has been increasing since the 1980s.
Residents who come across a moose are advised to do as the onlookers at Nakoa Elementary School did, and “stay a respectful distance away to enjoy this magnificent animal.”
