A former White House lawyer predicted that former President Donald Trump would be jailed due to his narcissism.
During an interview on Monday with CNN’s Erin Burnett, Ty Cobb said he believes that an appeals court will uphold a limited gag order from Judge Tanya Chutkan and that Trump’s narcissism would get the best of him and land him in jail.
Chutkan’s order, which was issued on October 17, prevents Trump from making public statements that would target Special Counsel Jack Smith, members of his staff, court staff, or “any reasonably foreseeable witness or the substance of their testimony.”
“I don’t think his first or second violation of the gag order will find him sent to jail, but I think ultimately, his narcissism will get the best of him,” Cobb explained. “And he will violate it until he finds out what the limits of Judge Chutkan’s patience are.”
Cobb predicted that Chutkan’s existing gag order would be tweaked regarding the word “target” or “targeting” which is used in the current gag order and added that it would be “refined” to where it was clear that, “Jack Smith can be criticized” by name but he “can’t be the subject of incitement.”
On Monday, three judges listened as lawyers on both sides argued over the gag order in the case against Trump regarding his attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election and claims that the election had been rigged.
The judges ended up arguing with Trump’s lawyer, John Sauer, as he tried to point out that the order was “unprecedented” and hindered Trump’s “core political speech.”
“His words have real consequences,” Cobb added. “We have you know, dead people on January 6 that compellingly demonstrate that.”
After Chutkan initially imposed her gag order, she later reimposed it and ruled that it would stay in effect until Trump’s legal team had appealed it.
