A pair of New Year’s twins were due at the end of January but decided to make their own independent entrances into the world over the New Year’s holiday.
According to 6 ABC Action News WPVI TV, Baby Ezra was born at 11:48 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. He weighed exactly 6 pounds in Virtua Voorhees Hospital in New Jersey.
His little brother, Ezekiel, was not born until after the first of the year at 12:28 a.m., weighing 4 lbs. 15 oz.
New Year’s Eve is also the father’s, Billy Humphrey’s, birthday. He said that while his wife was in labor, “I’m like – what a great birthday gift!”
“I get two boys on my birthday. We came in early enough on that day that I was thinking, ‘OK, maybe this is going to happen?’” he added.
The mother, Eve, described her surprise when she learned they were expecting twins. She said, “The doctor was like, ‘Well, there’s two heartbeats.’ And I was like, ‘Let me see. I don’t believe you. And I was in shock.”
She joked that after their first son was born, she was “thinking of the tax write-off, I was like, ‘Maybe we can get another tax write-off!’”
She noted that the labor continued through into the New Year’s celebration.
“I was still pushing when everyone’s doing the countdown and we just all said, ‘Happy New Year’ in the middle of me trying to push,” she said.
Mr. Humphrey stated, “I just know they’re going to be world changers. And they couldn’t share the same day, right? They needed their own spotlight.”
Eve also added, “Seeing them in person and seeing their faces – they’re so cute. I’m so glad they’re healthy.”
The family has plenty to celebrate with so many birthdays this time of year, and to add to their festivities, they also have a soon-to-be 3-year-old named Hezekiah, who was born on Jan. 3.
