Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley has secured her first victory in the Republican presidential primary.

On Sunday, voters in Washington, D.C., cast their ballot in the Republican and made history along the way.

Haley won roughly 63% of the vote while former President Donald Trump won 33%.

About 2,000 Republicans voted in the primary, and because Haley won more than 50% of the vote, she received 19 delegates from the primary.

The results made history Republicans as it made Haley the first woman to win a Republican primary of caucus for president.

In a statement, Haley campaign spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas said, “It’s not surprising that Republicans closest to Washington dysfunction are rejecting Donald Trump and all his chaos.”

The win for the long-shot candidate comes as Trump has won 244 delegates to Haley’s 43 and appears to be on track to win the party’s nomination.

According to RealClearPolitics’ average of polls, one day before Super Tuesday, Trump leads Haley nationally by an average of 63.4%.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump dismissed his loss in the D.C. primary, writing, “I purposely stayed away from the D.C. Vote because it is the ‘Swamp,’ with very few delegates, and no upside. Birdbrain spent all of her time, money and effort there.”

“Over the weekend we won Missouri, Idaho, and Michigan – BIG NUMBERS – Complete destruction of a very weak opponent. The really big numbers will come on Super Tuesday. Also, WAY UP ON CROOKED JOE!” he added.

In a separate post, he said, “Birdbrain is a loser, record low performance in virtually every State. DeSanctus easily beat her in Iowa for a VERY DISTANT second place, and then she ran up to the podium, before he had a chance to do so, and claimed victory.”

“I enjoy watching the Bird disavow her PLEDGE to the RNC and her statement that she would NEVER run against President Trump (‘A great President’). Well, she ran, she lied, and she LOST BIG!” Trump added.
