Fulton County District Fani Willis may be allowed to stay on the election interference case against former President Donald Trump.

However, CNN legal affairs correspondent Paula Reid says that news may not be all bad for the 45th president.

Reid pointed out Judge Scott McAfee found the evidence did not corroborate the allegation Willis improperly benefited from hiring Nathan Wade, whom she had a relationship with, as a special prosecutor in the case against Trump.

However, McAfee blasted the district attorney for displaying a “tremendous lapse in judgment” in the matter, and while he did not disqualify her from the case, he did provide a requirement: either she or Wade would have to step down from the case due to the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Reid also noted the judge called out the “unprofessional manner” of Willis’ behavior during a hearing in the case of whether she should be disqualified.

Reid argued, “It’s really a gift to former President Trump and his co-defendants because they’re not only going to fight this case on the merits, they’re fighting in the court of public opinion. Optics here matter.”

“He has tried to undermine trust in the justice system. And if you have a judge who is overseeing a case, calling the prosecutor, again, unprofessional, saying that she made a bad decision, she had a lapse in judgment, that is a lot of ammunition,” she added.
