It’s important to get by with a little help from your friends, even if you’re a king.

That was the message King Charles III gave for Holy Thursday, per NBC News.

According to the monarch, Jesus gave an “example of how we should serve and care for each other,” and how “we need and benefit greatly from those who extend the hand of friendship to us, especially in a time of need,” according to the Press Association, a British news agency that reports royal announcements.

This pre-recorded message comes on the heels of both he and Kate, the Princess of Wales, dealing with cancer diagnoses.

Since Charles, 75, was diagnosed, he has kept a low profile while still working out of the public eye. He and Queen Camilla are expected to attend an Easter Sunday service at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, per NBC News.

Charles’ speech was broadcast at Worcester Cathedral, near Birmingham in the West Midlands, about 130 miles northwest of London. Camilla was at the event.

He did not speak about Kate, who now has her own medical issues. He has, however, talked about how appreciative he is of well-wishers since his diagnosis, per the outlet.

Late Friday, he released a statement saying he and Kate have grown closer as they both fight cancer.

The king is “so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did,” the statement said.

The king, as head of the Anglican Church, usually takes part in the Royal Maundy service by handing out “specially made coins in white and red purses to 75 men and 75 women to reward them for good deeds such as charity work, a reference to the king’s age,” NBC News reported.

Camilla performed that job this year.
