House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is reportedly looking for a way to end Republicans’ impeachment probe of President Joe Biden.
An in depth article from CNN notes Comer was initially “eager” to lead the investigation.
However, it added, “After 15 months of coming up short in proving some of his biggest claims against the president, Comer recently approached one of his Republican colleagues and made a blunt admission: He was ready to be “done with” the impeachment.”
“Comer has grown increasingly frustrated as his investigation appears to be at a dead end, with Republicans resigned to the reality that they don’t have the votes to impeach the president, multiple sources with direct knowledge of the situation told CNN,” the outlet reported.
One Republican lawmaker told CNN, “Comer is hoping Jesus comes so he can get out.”
“He is fed up,” they added.
When CNN asked if Comer would have done anything differently in the probe, he responded, “Not that I can think of.”
He also insisted that “the impeachment inquiry is ongoing and impeachment is 100% still on the table.”
However, when the outlet asked if he has heard frustrations from Republicans, the chairman reportedly became “defensive” and said, “I don’t even want to talk to you.”
“If you don’t think they were influence-peddling, there’s nothing to say. My God,” he added.
Comer has previously noted Republicans’ slim House majority and suggested there may not be an impeachment at the end of the probe.
