Trump Misstates Barron Trump’s Age — Campaign Not Amused With Report

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 10:  Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks to the media as he arrives for his criminal trial for allegedly covering up hush money payments at Manhattan Criminal Court on May 10, 2024 in New York City. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 presidential election. Age is just a number, right?

But that age gets more attention when Donald Trump misspoke during an interview with Telemundo 51 of Miami by saying his youngest son, Barron Trump, is 17. He actually turned 18 in March.

“He’s pretty young, I will say. He’s 17. But if they can do that, I’m all for it,” Trump said in regards to Barron becoming a delegate from Florida for the Republican National Convention, per NBC News.

Many pointed out the gaffe on X, formerly Twitter.

Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung, in turn, said this was much ado about nothing.

“NBC News has lost its mind and clearly suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome. Instead of focusing on President Trump’s second term agenda and undoing Crooked Joe Biden’s disastrous policies, NBC has chosen to engage in tabloid journalism fit for the checkout aisle of a grocery store,” Cheung said.

Barron Trump’s siblings — Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Tiffany Trump — are also delegates.

In the interview, Trump also said that Barron becoming a delegate was “very cute. He’s a very young guy, and he’s graduating from high school this year.”

Barron Trump will graduate from high school May 17. Trump will be able to attend the event after Judge Juan Merchan, the judge overseeing Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan, gave permission

Trump faces 34 charges and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Telemundo is the Spanish-language network of NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC News.
