Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) is urging President Joe Biden to take a cognitive test, saying “it wouldn’t hurt.”

Whitmer said this would put to rest Biden’s ability to perform as president, which was a concern heightened by his dismal performance at the presidential debate June 27.

“I don’t think that it would hurt,” Whitmer said on CNN in response to a question about Biden taking a cognitive test and whether former President Donald Trump should take one, too.

While on “NewsNight,” Whitmer said the debate was “not a great success” for the presumptive Republican nominee, she she remains loyal to Biden and rejects calls for him to leave the race.

“He shows up every day and fights for the American public. He cares about other people more than he cares about himself, and that’s precisely why I think this moment where we have Donald Trump, who’s been convicted of 34 felonies, who cares only about Donald Trump, we can’t lose sight of how high these stakes are,” Whitmer said. “We have a field, and unless one person, Joe Biden, makes an alternative decision, this is the field, and we’ve got to go.”

Biden addressed concerns about his mental acuity during an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos Friday.

Biden said,“I get a full neurological test every day.”

But he acknowledged he has not received a cognitive test not has been seen by a  neurologist.

“No one said I had to. … They said I’m good,” he said.

On Wednesday, Whitmer said she was concerned over not focusing on Trump.

“We are spending a lot of energy not on Donald Trump and the existential threat before us, and that gives me a great deal of concern,” she said.
