Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg tried to take a shot at former President Donald Trump for pulling out of the presidential debates.

However, it did not go how he expected.

On Buttieg wrote, “Has a presidential nominee ever agreed to a debate, then pulled out? Remarkable show of weakness here.”

Remarkable show of weakness here. https://t.co/tw9KhmhkpN

The Trump campaign said in a statement, “Given the continued political chaos surrounding Crooked Joe Biden and the Democrat Party, general election debate details cannot be finalized until Democrats formally decide on their nominee.”

“There is a strong sense by many in the Democrat Party… that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump, and they are still holding out for someone “better.” Therefore, it would be inappropriate to schedule things with Harris because Democrats very well could still change their minds,” the statement added.

Several users comment on Buttigieg’s post noting that President Joe Biden challenged Trump to two debates and then dropped out of the race after just one:

Are you talking about President Biden? https://t.co/KumehDrCp6

Yes. Biden. Literally this past weekend. https://t.co/r0QCCNGhF9

I’m actually surprised Pete would dunk this hard on his boss, Joe Biden. The man *just* pulled out of the race (and therefore the second debate), clearly against his will. Undeniable weakness aside, give him a moment of peace. https://t.co/KgdOt8OElK

Joe Biden agreed to a debate and then quit an entire presidential campaign. https://t.co/Tb486inWR4

The last debate ended a presidency lmao you’d think Dems would just take a few plays off https://t.co/Ah6p0Nry1R

This is the sort of extraordinarily brazen tack you take only when you know that the media is in full campaign mode in your favor. https://t.co/CzpPku0B3M

I can think of one who pulled out of this VERY DEBATE, Pete. It happened on July 21. https://t.co/sAyHiNULVI

Your nominee pulled out of the entire campaign, bud. https://t.co/XvLJZLCbES
