There are three top contenders vying to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate on the Democratic ticket.

And Democrats are divided as to who her choice should be.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) are the top contenders with Shapiro being considered the leader of the pack, Fox News reported.

Harris interviewed her finalists Sunday and is expected to make her first appearance with her running mate at a rally in Philadelphia Tuesday.

As the clock ticks towards Harris announcing her decision, many in the Democratic Party are divided as to who could best help her to win over Donald Trump, her Republican opponent.

In less than a month since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Harris, she has seen better numbers in the polls, raised millions of dollars and is neck-and-neck with Trump.

A running mate is expected to be announced via an online message to supporters. Biden’s campaign announced Harris as his choice for his his running mate via a text in 2020.

Her short list shows Harris wanting a running mate

who will help her win over moderate voters since she had a far-left voting record in the Senate.

“I think she needs to pick someone who’s more moderate than her. I think she needs to pick someone that’s got more governing experience at the ground level,” former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie told ABC News’ “This Week.”

And that person is Shapiro, Christie said.

Shapiro would also offer a possible advantage since Pennsylvania is a major swing state. Walz’s Minnesota vote more consistently Democrat.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), has been skeptical of Shapiro and reportedly warned Harris against picking him. Fetterman claims Shapiro is too focused on “his own personal ambitions.”

The two have reportedly butted heads in their interactions in state politics in Pennsylvania.
