Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) usually does not call former President Donald Trump by name. She prefers “what’s his name.”
In a recent podcast with The Guardian’s Jonathan Freedland — “Politics Weekly America” — released Tuesday, the former House speaker explained why, per The HuffPost.
Freedland asked Pelosi, “You just don’t like the word passing your lips?”
“I just don’t,” Pelosi said.
“I’m afraid, you know, when I grew up Catholic, as I am now, if you said a bad word, you could burn in hell if you didn’t have a chance to confess. So I don’t want to take any chances,” she said.
Pelosi likened using Trump’s name to swearing.
But she eventually said Trump’s name when talking about how he attacks freedom of speech.
“I said his name, oh my gosh,” said Pelosi. “I hope I don’t burn in hell.”
