New National Poll Shows Trump With Slight Edge Over Harris

Former President Donald Trump has a slight lead in the presidential race, according to a new national poll, with two weeks left until Election Day.

Trump currently has 47% of the support among likely voters nationwide. His rival, Vice President Kamala Harris has 45%, according to a Wall Street Journal survey released on Wednesday evening.

The ballot also included third-party and independent candidates, Fox News reported.

This is in contrast to the two-point edge Harris held in the Journal’s survey conducted in late August.

The race, however, is too close to call as Trump’s lead is within the new survey’s margin-of-error. That means either candidate could be in the lead.

The Wall Street Journal poll was taken of 1,500 registered voters from Oct. 19-22. It revealed Trump having a three-point margin (49%-46%) over Harris in a race excluding other candidates.

The survey also shows Harris’ numbers have decreased as far as her favorability rating since August. In contrast, Trump’s numbers have improved.

Harris’ approval rating as vice president is down at 42% from 54%. Trump’s rating concerning his time as president is at 52%, up from 48%.

A Fox News national survey conducted Oct. 11-14 showed Trump with a two-point edge over Harris.

Other polls taken in the past two weeks, including CBS News, Marist, and USA Today/Suffolk University, have Harris with a slight advantage over Trump. However, these polls are, for the most part, within the margin of error.

“Overall, the movement toward Trump is subtle but potentially consequential, especially if he is making gains among college-educated voters,” veteran Democratic pollster Chris Anderson said.

Anderson conducts Fox News surveys with Republican Daron Shaw.

“However, the race has been well within the margin of error for three months and the outcome will likely hinge on which side is more effective at getting their voters to the polls as opposed to persuasion,” Anderson added.

National polls do not reflect the true voting status as the election is not based on the a popular vote, but is decided by electoral votes.

The Fox News poll showed Harris has a six-point lead over Trump among those responding from all seven battleground states.
